You can always slap together your own hair if you don’t trust anyone else with it, but if you have a killer look in mind—because let’s be real, most women do—then you better seek out a pro.
I always recommend doing at least one trial run with your hairstylist. This way, you can get a feel for how it looks and figure out just how long it’s going to take on your wedding day. If you stumble upon a stylist that clicks with you, don’t let them go. Remember, the styles they propose are their expert opinions, so it’s crucial for them to be brutally honest about what will shimmer and flop on you.
Hair Do’s and Don’ts
Don’t you dare make any drastic changes the week before your wedding; trust me, you do not want to risk a hair disaster on your big day. Give yourself 2 to 3 weeks to truly embrace a new hairstyle and at least a week for your hair to adjust to a fresh cut. If you’re thinking of coloring your hair, get that transformation done two weeks before your wedding. A little root touch-up? Sure, go ahead and schedule that for the week of or just a few days before the ceremony, but make it count—your color should look immaculate.
Do make sure you eat before heading to the stylist; I’ve seen brides faint, and it’s not pretty or fun. Eat something, please.
Do confirm your appointment well in advance, because your hair deserves that respect. Get everything in writing from your hairstylist—what services you’ll receive and what time he’ll / she’ll show up.
Don’t leave in quiet anger and attempt to fix your hair at home; that’s a recipe for disaster. Speak up if you’re not happy with the results; your big day deserves nothing less than perfection.
