Tips for Wedding Planning with Divorced Parents

With about half of marriages ending in divorce, there’s a good chance you might be navigating the tricky dynamics of having divorced parents at your wedding. It’s totally normal to worry about potential conflicts like parents who don’t exactly get along or aren’t on the best of terms plus all the emotions that can come with it. But here’s the good news. With a little understanding & empathy, you can create a wedding day that celebrates love even when family dynamics are complicated.

Let’s be real. Wedding planning is stressful no matter what & even happily married couples don’t always see eye to eye. So if your parents get along that’s amazing. You can plan your big day without too much extra worry. But if things are a little tense it might be best to keep them separate while still making sure they both feel included. If they’re sharing responsibilities maybe your dad takes charge of the reception while your mom handles the ceremony or the other way around. That way dad can focus on things like the venue, catering & entertainment while mom takes care of the beautiful details like decorations & music.

There’s no magic solution to completely avoid stress but having a solid plan can help keep things smooth so you & your parents can actually enjoy the day. Most importantly never forget that your parents love you & just want to see you happy!
