Your friends & family can help set up, decorate, manage the guest book, or take care of other small but important tasks.
You can find great deals in places you wouldn’t normally think to shop for wedding stuff. Most people head straight for bridal boutiques & chain stores like David’s Bridal, Target & Hobby Lobby, but you’d be surprised at what you can find at Dollar Tree or even the Goodwill around the corner.
Limiting the dinner menu is another great way to cut costs. Instead of a full buffet or a fancy three-course meal, which can get pricey fast, opt for a more simplified menu. Buy your own liquor to avoid those big venue markups. Also, consider skipping the open bar. Limiting drink options can help keep costs down & prevent guests from taking shots at 5 PM & partying until midnight when things can get a little out of hand.
Another way to save money is by having an adults-only wedding. Cutting out kids can significantly lower your catering bill. Just make sure to communicate clearly with guests that your ceremony & reception are for adults only.
Take advantage of local craft artists for décor & accessories. You can also sign up for a craft-making class if you want to DIY your wedding design. Learning how to make your own centerpieces, bouquets & other decorations can be fun & budget-friendly.
Most importantly, never be afraid to ask for a discount. If you have your heart set on a caterer who quotes $15 a plate but your budget is closer to $12, ask what your options are. Let them know your price range & see if they can work with you. Most vendors understand that weddings are expensive & if there’s a way to make your dream happen, they’ll try to help!
