Perfect Weddings are Overrated. Being Present is Hot.

If you’ve spent any amount of time on Pinterest or Instagram, you might be starting to think that every wedding is supposed to look like a magazine, every detail is supposed to be flawless, and every bride is supposed to float through her day without a single thing going wrong. And girl, I hate to break it to you, but that’s just not reality.

Those beautiful wedding photos you see online? The ones with the perfect lighting, the gorgeous florals, the table setups, and the couple looking like they stepped straight out of a fairytale? What you don’t see is the timeline running a little behind, the groomsman who forgot his belt, the flower girl who decided she was absolutely NOT walking down that aisle, or the coordinator fixing the bride’s bustle 100 times.

You can have the most beautiful wedding in the world and still have things go wrong. Your cake might not look exactly like the picture. Someone might forget something important. It might rain during your outdoor ceremony. Your hair might not cooperate, or your carefully planned timeline might need a little rearranging. That’s life, friend!

We are humans, and humans make mistakes. We forget things. We miscommunicate. We get overwhelmed. Sometimes we mess up, even when our intentions are good and we’ve done everything we can to prepare.

Honestly, I think we put so much pressure on ourselves to create the perfect wedding that we forget what we’re actually celebrating in the first place.

You’re getting married! You’re committing your life to another person, surrounded by people who love you. You’re creating memories that you’ll look back on for years to come. Let’s take a breath.

Does this mean you shouldn’t care about the details? Absolutely not! I will forever be an advocate for having a plan, hiring professionals who know what they’re doing, and putting thought into the things that matter to you. Preparation makes a HUGE difference, and having someone who knows how to handle the unexpected can save you a whole lot of stress.

But there’s a difference between wanting your wedding day to go well and expecting every single thing to go perfectly. One allows you to enjoy your day. The other can leave you so busy looking for what’s wrong that you miss what’s right in front of you. Perfect weddings are overrated. Being present is hot. So be present, you only live once.
